The work was never done. Jack had chased down a blowfish and had arrested him. He hated the Torchwood policy of kill first and question later that they had in London. Unfortunately he had taken the creature back to One and he'd been killed there "trying to escape". Jack was sick with it and he withdrew.

He didn't usually drink but today...today he had good reason. So he sat in the bar at the end of the street with a glass of brandy he'd already drained four times.

What he wouldn't give to be able to get drunk.

"I wouldn't know," Val admitted. "My work tends to be very pleasant. ...I am sorry though, that you had such a poor day. What would cheer you up, friend?" he asked, holding his glass up in toast, then knocking it back.

"I'd like to get drunk...but I don't. Can't. So the next best thing is...I don't know."

So far London wasn't being kind.

"You should let me take you dancing," Val smiled. "That always cheers me up."

"Do you know where to dance here?" he asked. Of course Jack was thinking of dance halls- intimate dancing. He was sure that had passed after the war.

"There's a club next block over," Val grinned. "The DJ is alright, and the cover is reasonable... Go on, make my night, say you'll come."

Oh, a DJ. That made more sense. But, really, what else was he going to do but mope?

"I'd love to," he said.

"Brilliant. Drink up, Jack, and let's go," he smiled cheerfully. "Come on, lovely. I'm going to make your night fantastic."

Jack tipped his glass back then slapped cash on the bar and got to his feet. Stone sober. Annoying.

"All right, Valentine. Lead the way."

Val grinned, paying his own tab, then slipping an arm around Jack, even though they just met.

"Come on then, lovely. I'll gladly sweep you off your feet, darling."

Jack was used to being the one doing the sweeping and it amused him that Valentine was so unbelievably forward.

"A man after my own heart," he said, his own arm finding a comfortable hold on the other man in return.

"So, Jack, tell me all about yourself," Val purred. "I want to know all about you. Why's such a handsome man drinking alone, hmm?"

"Valentine, I think you'll like me better if I don't tell you everything. All you need to know is I'm available and you...are very good looking," Jack replied, choosing to flirt rather than lie.

"I am," Val agreed cheerfully. "And who doesn't like a secret, hmm?" he asked, his voice low and rough, yet still charming and friendly somehow.

That rough quality went right down Jack's back to his cock. He walked a little closer and skipped his arm around Valentine.

"It's always fun meeting new people."
