"Ugh, I can't read Swedish," Jack grumbled, tossing the little hex wrench to the floor.

He'd had this great idea to build a shelf. Just a shelf. How hard could it be? He'd built lots of things.

Clearly he'd never built anything in Sweden.

Jack sighed and picked the tool back up from the carpet in their flat.

"Logan, do I need the locking bolt for this? Can you tell?" he asked, showing the paper to the younger man who, he was certain, was having a good laugh at his frustration.

"You're going to have to explain what that means and why I care," Logan said honestly. "I assume it's bad. It sounds bad."

[im_torchwood]

"It means we get two weeks paid holiday and in the end we'll have new computers," he said. "You make fun of my files, but they never find anything out of order. Ever."

[logan_echolls]

"Your files are just boxes," Logan argued, looking over at Jack. "Come on, admit it, you like being able to control-F your way through time. Besides, once I get it all online you'll have more room for your creepy hand collection."

"One hand does not mean I have a collection," he protested.

[logan_echolls]

"It's more creepy hands than most people have," Logan countered.

[im_torchwood]

"It's a really important hand," he said, not bothering with further explanation. Keeping secrets was simply too much of a habit. Hundreds of years at Torchwood had definitely had a lasting effect.

[logan_echolls]

"You're so weird," Logan replied with a snort.

[im_torchwood]

"I'm weird? You're weird," he replied. "I'm not weird."

He had to chuckle a little because they both knew Logan was right.

[logan_echolls]

"You're the weirdest," Logan assured him.

[im_torchwood]

"Yeah, but you love me so I kinda don't care," Jack grinned.

[logan_echolls]

Logan's smile softened at that, and he shrugged.

"Yeah, well, I'm an idiot," he smiled.

[im_torchwood]

"But for real, what do you want to do with a two week holiday? Build more shelves? Find more hands?" he asked.

[logan_echolls]

"Let's adopt a dog," Logan said, not needing to think about it.

[im_torchwood]

"Okay," he smiled. He'd really just been waiting for Logan to suggest it.

[logan_echolls]

"Yeah? Seriously?" Logan asked, a bit surprised.

[im_torchwood]

"Of course," he replied. They rolled to a stop and he looked over. "Logan...of course we can get a dog."

[logan_echolls]

"I just didn't know you'd want to, since, you know, you have Torchwood here," Logan said.

[im_torchwood]

"Torchwood doesn't have any rules against dogs," he chuckled, but only to deflect the truth of Logan's words.

[logan_echolls]

"You know what I mean," Logan said quietly.

[im_torchwood]

"I genuinely am trying to work less," he said. "It's just hard to let go when it's been my whole life here."

[logan_echolls]

"I get it. It's fine, I'm not- I don't know- I'm not picking a fight," Logan shrugged.

"I'm not...I think a dog would be good. I miss..."

He missed Linus more than he wanted to admit. He'd been Logan's dog, but he'd been so fond of him.

[logan_echolls]

"Yeah. No. Me too," Logan said awkwardly, falling silent. "Everything's so different now."

[im_torchwood]

"Yeah," he agreed, a weight settling directly in his heart.

"...It's good, though?"

[logan_echolls]

"Yeah," Logan replied. "I mean- Yeah, of course. I missed you, man. I missed... I dunno. I don't know, part of me feels like I'm still waking up."
